Emmanuelle Alt is the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris.
Emmanuelle dresses in much the same way as she has approached the direction of fashion photography at Vogue: making strong fashion pictures without shocking. She is a mix of skinny jeans and androgynous rock and roll style. Her key look is a carefully curated uniform of fitted pants or jeans (Topshop jeans preferred), collared shirts, blazers and strappy sandals or ankle boots. Sometimes there is a seasonal Isabel Marant jacket, and in winter a navy wool peacoat. A classier Cartier tank with black leather strap is her main accessory.
The trick to dressing like Emmanuelle isn’t quickly running into the Gap in your lunch hour and grabbing a classic white shirt that fits (I know, I have tried this!), all her pieces are selected for detail and tailoring. The colour palette is minimal: black, white, navy, grey, chambray and pink. And it is this simplicity that stands out among the eager for attention fashion crowd.
“Her style is her big shoulders, long legs, tight jeans, sleeves up to the elbow, one hip out. I personally like her. She’s a handsome French woman,” proclaims Karl Lagerfeld.
